Where Language Revitalization Meets Traditional Ecological Knowledge.
A Journey of Curiosity and Connection
Follow a young bear cub as they learn about sweet and (not-so-sweet) berries.
With guidance from Mother Bear, Mother Moon, and Plant relatives, they learn how sharing knowledge, curiosity, and
honesty helps us stay true to ourselves, fill our bellies, heal our hearts, strengthen our minds, and care for one another.
Rooted in Indigenous wisdom, this book introduces young readers to the
Yesá:sahį (Tutelo-Saponi) language and encourages children and parents to speak it
while exploring the beauty and power of nature together.

Hasi Čʰigo̹:yo̹ Release Party!
The Hasi Čhigǫ:yǫ (Sweet Berry) Children’s Book Release Party was a beautiful reminder of the power that safe spaces hold for community healing. By coming together in this circle, we shared stories, learned a language not spoken in most of our communities for over 150 years, built connections, and celebrated culture—creating room for authenticity, vulnerability, and growth.
Creating spaces like these isn’t just about gathering people. It’s about honoring each person’s journey, nurturing belonging, and amplifying the voices of those who have too often been silenced. I’m proud to witness the magic that happens when we step into these spaces with open hearts and minds.
This is just one of the many ways we continue to cultivate safe spaces where healing, learning, and growth can happen, one story at a time. Thank you to the North Carolina Botanical Gardens for having us, Corey Roberts of the Yesa:sahį Language Project for his feedback on the book, those who have purchased a copy (or two!), and everyone who joined me in making this moment a reality. 🫐💫
